Brahmi

Bacopa monnieri

Also known as Water Hyssop and Herb of Grace, Brahmi is a groundcover creeping herb native to the wetlands of India, Australia, Europe, Africa, Asia and America. It has small, white flowers that bloom spring through autumn, and succulent leaves.

It prefers damp or boggy soil and does well on the edge of a warm pond (it can be emersed or immersed -up to 30cm deep), but it also grows well in a pot or in a garden bed provided the soil is kept fairly moist. It is tolerant of brackish waters. It does not need much in the way of fertiliser and is generally a low maintenance plant. A plant that prefers warm temperatures, it is best protected from frosts.

Brahmi has long been cultivated in India for its healing properties and is an important plant in Ayurvedic traditional medicine, used to improve memory and to treat various ailments.
